A thick concrete mat slab features a depressed pit measuring three feet deep, reinforced with multiple layers of steel rebar terminating in T-heads at the vertical drop. Six top bars per layer terminate vertically with typical three-inch clearances, accompanied by typical trim bars. Headed shear reinforcement is shortened at the pit floor, and additional number eight bars measuring twenty feet long are placed each way within the mat slab.
