A wide flange column is capped with a steel plate measuring one-half inch thick at W10 or W8 profiles, and seven-eighths inch thick at W14 or W12 profiles unless otherwise noted. The cap plate is welded to the column flanges with three-eighths inch fillet welds typical, and to the web with a weld size equal to half the web thickness typical. A shear tab is provided where indicated for beam framing. An internal plate aligns with the column centerline.
