A mechanical duct passes through a framed opening in the web of a structural steel beam supporting a composite metal deck slab with headed shear studs. The connection details allow for a partial-joint-penetration groove weld at each end, with complete-joint-penetration welds permitted at the contractor's option. Sizing and placement of the duct and steel components are coordinated with mechanical drawings and framing plans. Spacing of reinforcing elements is maintained at two feet typical with a maximum dimension of three feet six inches.
