A concrete slab construction joint features a keyed joint on each side with a depth equal to one-half of the slab thickness, or intentionally roughened at the contractor's option. All slab reinforcing steel extends continuously through the joint. Where no top reinforcing exists per plan, number four bars are provided at twenty-four inches on center extending two feet into the adjacent slab. A closure strip slab is cast twenty-eight days minimum after adjacent slab placement with bottom reinforcing per plan and a lap length equal to the development length of the largest top or bottom bar.
