An HSS8x6 structural steel beam frames into an HSS6x6 hollow structural section column with a welded moment connection. A 3/8-inch by 8-inch cap plate is welded to the top of the column and the top flange of the HSS beam with five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds, maintaining a 1/2-inch maximum clearance. A structural angle L6x6x3/8 measuring 0 feet 8 inches long acts as a bottom seat, welded to the column face and the bottom beam flange with five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds.
