A 1-1/2-inch outer diameter by 0.18-inch thick steel pipe railing post terminates at a 1/4-inch by 6-inch by 6-inch base plate welded to the stair pan. A 3/16-inch fillet weld secures the assembly. A 1/4-inch plate stiffener is placed under the midrail and welded to the stair pan.
