Small penetrations located between metal deck flutes require no additional reinforcement when spaced properly. Openings cutting through a single flute require a 14-gauge galvanized steel plate fastened to the top or bottom of the deck flutes. A minimum of two intact flutes must remain between adjacent openings. Plates must span across the cut flute to restore structural integrity.
