This connection joins a wide flange beam to a K1 column using a combination of welded flange plates and a bolted web connection. The beam web is connected to the column via a web plate sized per the standard bolted connection schedule, with the plate thickness increased by 1/16 inch. The beam flanges are connected to the column flange using Grade 50 flange plates that match or exceed the thicker beam flange thickness plus 1/2 inch. These flange plates are welded to the column flange and the beam flange using D1.8 demand critical welds, with 5/8 inch fillet welds specified for the web plate to the web connection. A 3/4 inch radius is provided at the flange plate corners, and the assembly includes provisions for a beam on the opposite side of the column.
