A hollow structural section column of size HSS 6x6x1/4 extends down into a concrete footing and is topped with a closure plate. Four one-half-inch diameter welded studs, each five inches long, are welded to the tube within the concrete embedment zone. The footing is twenty-four inches square or in diameter, providing a three-inch concrete clearance beneath the bottom of the tube. The finish slab surrounds the column above the thickened footing.
