A surface-mounted outrigger drag connection frames a steel wide-flange beam into a reinforced concrete masonry unit wall. The connection utilizes a one-inch-thick steel plate welded to the beam web with five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds on three sides, secured to a matching one-inch-thick by six-inch-wide steel embed plate in the masonry wall. Five number eight by eighteen-foot A706 reinforcing bars are embedded horizontally within the CMU cells. Additional one-quarter-inch full-depth stiffener plates are centered on each side of the beam web per plan. Bars are welded to plates per detail 3/S6.01, and bolted connections are executed per detail 1/S6.01.
