Hole configuration in a structural steel beam web for simple connections on W27 and deeper sections. The top bolt is placed in a standard size hole, followed by two bolts in short slotted holes in the beam web, and the balance of the bolts in horizontal long slotted holes in the beam web. A double row of bolts is used where required per the connection schedule, with a minimum top of beam to centerline of first bolt dimension and typical three-inch vertical bolt spacing. Plate washers of five-sixteenths inch thickness are required at all slotted holes per American Institute of Steel Construction standards. Standard holes in the beam web with slotted holes in the shear plate are permitted as an alternative.
