A concrete topping slab is cast over a structural concrete floor slab with an intentionally roughened surface for shear transfer. Topping slab thickness t is reinforced with number four bars at eighteen inches on center top when t is less than or equal to six inches, and number five bars at twelve inches on center top when t is greater than six inches up to a twelve inch maximum. The underlying structural concrete slab contains longitudinal and transverse reinforcing bars.
