A hollow structural section column frames into a horizontal member using a three-quarter inch thick connection plate welded top and bottom. A one-half inch thick cap plate is welded typical to the assembly with quarter-inch fillet welds. Dimensions indicate an eight-inch vertical and horizontal spacing with a one-inch edge clearance and a maximum one-half inch gap.
