A structural steel beam frames into a hollow structural section column using a three-eighths-inch thick A572 Grade 50 through plate with slotted holes and a vertical work point at the centerline of the W14x column. The steel beams connect to the column plates via three seven-eighths-inch diameter A325N high-strength bolts and three-eighths-inch fillet welds. A diagonal structural steel brace is welded to a one-half-inch thick A572 Grade 50 gusset plate with quarter-inch and five-sixteenths-inch fillet welds, maintaining a one-eighth-inch maximum gap at assembly. The brace is detailed with a slot one-eighth inch maximum wider than the gusset plate thickness, and is secured with three-quarter-inch diameter A307 bolts.
