Sixteen-gauge metal studs with one-and-five-eighths-inch flanges are spaced at twenty-four inches on center and secured to a concrete masonry unit wall. A continuous sixteen-gauge break shape is anchored to the top of the CMU with one-quarter-inch diameter Hilti Kwik Hus EZ or Simpson Titen HD screws having a two-and-a-half-inch minimum embedment at sixteen inches on center, and connected to each stud with number ten sheet metal screws. Lateral support is provided by L3x3x0'-5" long by fourteen-gauge angles located at mid-height of the stud or at eight-foot maximum spacing, and within eight inches of the top and bottom. These angles are fastened to the masonry using two one-quarter-inch diameter concrete screws with two-and-a-half-inch minimum embedment and three number ten sheet metal screws to the stud. A continuous L2x2x16-gauge angle with number ten sheet metal screws ties each stud at the base, where a continuous sixteen-gauge break shape is secured with number ten sheet metal screws at sixteen inches on center to the angle and one-quarter-inch diameter concrete screws to the CMU.
