A filler beam constructed from a three-eighths-inch A36 bent plate or a cut hollow structural section bears on top of a structural steel wide-flange beam sized per plan. A four-inch dimension spans the filler element, which sits with typical one-and-one-half-inch clearances to the beam flange edge. The assembly aligns with the top of steel and bottom of deck elevations specified on the structural plans.
