A hollow structural section beam frames into a supporting wide-flange steel beam beneath a concrete slab over a metal floor deck. A one-half-inch shear plate welded to the wide-flange steel beam web connects to the hollow structural section beam web using bolts sized per the bolt schedule. A one-half-inch cap plate is welded to the top of the hollow structural section beam with a quarter-inch weld on three sides and aligned with the center of the hollow structural section. Web stiffeners are provided on the supporting steel beam as detailed in general structural notes. A half-inch maximum gap is maintained between the framing members.
