The slab on grade construction joint requires a saw cut extending to one-fifth the depth of the slab with a maximum depth of two inches. Reinforcement must continue uninterrupted across the construction joint because the concrete slab functions as a structural diaphragm. Through cutting or trenching the joint is strictly prohibited. The contractor must submit a slab on grade construction joint plan for the engineer's review prior to pouring concrete.
