A rectangular concrete column measuring 24 inches by 28 inches is reinforced with longitudinal steel bars placed symmetrically around the perimeter. Internal ties with alternating hooks provide confinement and shear reinforcement. A typical concrete clearance of 1 1/2 inches is maintained from the face of the column to the ties. The column is centered along a structural grid line.
