A framing beam connects to the web of a supporting steel beam using a single-plate shear tab bolted with a quantity and size determined per plan. A three-eighths-inch full-height stiffener plate is welded to the supporting beam web with a one-quarter-inch fillet weld on three sides. Additional three-eighths-inch by four-inch minimum plates match the beam flange width at the top and bottom, secured with one-quarter-inch fillet welds on two sides. Weld backup plates are welded to the steel assembly but omitted from the graphic for clarity.
