These structural details illustrate steel column base connections supported by a wide-flange beam. The wide-flange column assembly features a three-quarter-inch base plate secured with four three-quarter-inch diameter A325N bolts, welded to the column web and flanges with minimum welds per AISC specifications. Stiffener plates measuring one-half-inch thick are welded to both sides of the supporting beam web with three-sixteenth-inch welds on three sides. The hollow structural section or pipe column assembly similarly utilizes a three-quarter-inch base plate and four three-quarter-inch diameter A325N bolts, with column-to-base plate welds per AISC and matching stiffener plate configurations below.
