A welded unreinforced flange welded web (WUF-W) moment connection occurs at the top of a column in a special lateral resisting system. The plan and elevation views establish the framing arrangement with a cap plate, beam flanges, and column flanges aligned with specific dimensional tolerances. The top flange connection utilizes a complete joint penetration groove weld with a backing bar left in place, augmented by a fillet weld to the backing bar. The web connection incorporates a partial joint penetration groove weld and a five-sixteenths inch fillet weld at the shear tab. Additional enlarged details specify dimensional clearances ranging from one-half inch minimum to one inch maximum for top and bottom regions, along with a one-quarter inch maximum dimension.
