A steel column supports a steel girder via a three-quarter-inch thick column cap plate secured with four three-quarter-inch diameter A325 bolts in two-inch slotted holes perpendicular to the girder. A seven-eighths-inch by nine-inch by three-foot-zero-inch long knife plate made of Grade 50 A572 steel is welded between hollow structural sections sized at 2x2x1/4 on each side with a one-half-inch gap. Open web steel joists and joist girders bear on the assembly with bottom chords framed around plates and left unwelded to the plates. The joist manufacturer shall coordinate joist bearing seat slope with the roof slope, and bolt sizes or grades shall be increased as required for wind uplift.
