A vertical construction joint in a concrete wall connects a first pour and a second pour. A 1 1/2 inch deep by 12 inch long concrete key is spaced at 24 inches on center along the joint, with two rows of keys required where the wall thickness exceeds 16 inches. Typical horizontal wall reinforcement continues through the joint section. The surface must be cleaned prior to placing concrete for the second pour.
