This structural steel detail shows a top flange splice plate centered across the centerline of symmetry over a beam-to-girder web connection. The splice plate has a minimum thickness of 5/8 inch and a width equal to the minimum beam width minus 1-1/2 inches, with a total width at least three times the plate width. Fillet welds of 5/16-inch size are specified symmetrically on both sides, leaving a 1-inch unwelded clearance typical at the ends. The web connection utilizes a bolted shear plate joining the framing beam web to the supporting girder flange or web. Notes reference sheet 19-S5.03 for deck support and depict the framing plan orientation.
