A hollow structural section member connects to the web of a wide flange steel column using a three-eighths-inch thick plate welded to the end of the hollow structural section with a three-sixteenths-inch fillet weld. The end plate is bolted to the column flange using four seven-eighths-inch diameter Grade A325 bolts installed snug tight. Shims are provided as required between the end plate and the column flange to adjust fit-up tolerances.
