Incoming W12 or W14 cross beams frame into a W18 minimum moment frame girder or drag beam using a scheduled bolted connection and matching connection plates. A stiffener plate matching the thickness of the connection plate is provided on the girder web, with a three-eighths inch plate specified when the beam depth H is less than twelve inches and omitted for beams shallower than twelve inches. Typical bolts are spaced at three inches vertically, tied to the girder web with a one-quarter inch fillet weld. A five-inch minimum dimension applies to the top connection zone, while a four-inch minimum dimension regulates the bottom clearance. Use this detail where the depth H is greater than eight inches and less than or equal to twelve inches.
