A hollow structural section beam frames into a hollow structural section column using a three-sided welded connection assembly. A three-eighths-inch plate is welded to the top of the hollow structural section column and beam with quarter-inch fillet welds. A seat angle measuring six inches by four inches by three-eighths-inch by zero feet six inches is provided underneath for beam depths between four and six inches, while a six-inch by six-inch by three-eighths-inch by zero feet six inches angle is used for depths of six inches or greater. The bottom angle connects to the underside of the hollow structural section beam and the face of the column using quarter-inch fillet welds with field weld symbols. A two-inch clearance is maintained between the framing members.
