A structural steel beam connects to the web of a supporting steel column using bolted shear tabs at the beam web and top and bottom plates welded across the flange junctions. A one-inch clearance is maintained at the column face, and typical 'K' clearance is provided at the flange plate locations. A cap plate is detailed at the top level with a reference to sheet S5.11. Top and bottom plates also reference detail 7 on sheet S5.11 for specific connection requirements. Similar conditions apply at single-row seismic connections where indicated on plan.
