An upper and lower hollow structural section steel column transitions across a post-tensioned concrete slab using continuous steel base plates welded to the column ends. Three-quarter inch diameter threaded rods pass vertically through the slab connecting the upper and lower plates. Fillet welds secure the structural steel plates to the column profiles.
