A structural steel beam frames into a column using a five-by-five by three-eighths-inch angle fitted with a three-eighths-inch plate stiffener. Half-inch diameter bolts secure the assembly on each side of the stiffener plate. A three-eighths-inch plate stiffener is welded to the beam web with three-sixteenths-inch fillet welds on three sides. The angle is welded to the column with five-sixteenths-inch fillet welds and to the beam with three-sixteenths-inch fillet welds, maintaining a five-inch maximum spacing.
