An offset hollow structural section beam connects to a timber post sized per plan using a one-quarter-inch by nine-inch by zero-foot-eleven-inch steel plate secured with four one-quarter-inch diameter by three-inch lag screws. The steel beam is fitted with a one-eighth-inch cap plate at each end and welded to the steel plate with a three-sixteenth-inch fillet weld.
