This assembly consists of a hollow structural section column welded to a 1-inch by 16-inch by 16-inch steel base plate. The connection is secured to the concrete footing using four 7/8-inch diameter ASTM F1554 Grade 36 anchor bolts with a minimum embedment of 12 inches. A minimum 1-inch shim and grout space is provided beneath the base plate for leveling. The column is attached to the base plate with a 5/16-inch fillet weld around the perimeter. Anchor rod installation requires the use of oversized holes per American Institute of Steel Construction standards, with plate washers fully welded to the base plate to cover the oversized holes.
