A structural steel beam connects to a column with the column web perpendicular to the framing direction. A one-and-one-quarter-inch thick column cap plate is welded to the top of the column. Three-quarter-inch thick stiffener plates are welded in two places with five-sixteenths inch fillet welds on three sides. A backing plate measuring three-eighths by four inches by one foot four inches is secured with two three-quarter-inch diameter erection bolts. Complete joint penetration welds and five-sixteenths inch fillet welds join the steel members per the structural drawings.
