A hollow structural section beam frames into a wide flange column utilizing top and bottom connecting elements. The top flange features a three-eighths-inch plate welded to the column with a seven-eighths-inch diameter A307 erection bolt and a nut tack-welded to the inside of the hollow structural section. A three-quarters-inch plate acts as a seat beneath the beam with a three-eighths-inch thick support plate measuring five inches. Alternatively, an L4x4x1.5 top and bottom angle connects the hollow structural section beam with three-quarters-inch diameter by one-and-three-quarter-inch threaded studs complete with nuts and washers. Fillet welds of various sizes including one-quarter-inch, five-sixteenths-inch, and three-eighths-inch secure the plates and angles to the structural members.
