A structural steel column rests on a base plate anchored to a cast-in-place concrete footing with anchor rods. Nonshrink grout fills the gap beneath the base plate per the base plate detail. An isolation joint with a one-inch maximum gap separates the concrete slab-on-grade from the column and footing assembly. The footing provides three inches of clear cover to reinforcing steel and is sized according to structural drawings and foundation schedules.
