A structural connection between an HSS beam and an HSS column utilizes a spreader beam and an embed plate. The concrete slab or concrete wall connects to the column via an embed plate measuring 1/2 inch by 12 inches by the slab depth, secured with four 1/2-inch diameter by 5-inch welded headed studs and reinforced with additional number 4 top and bottom bars measuring 48 inches in length for a total of four bars. The spreader beam is tied with a 3/8-inch plate with a 1/2-inch maximum incision and a 3/8-inch by 4-inch plate matching the beam depth, fastened using two 3/4-inch diameter through-bolts. Fillet welds of 3/16 inch secure the assembly components according to the structural design.
