All slab reinforcement is continuous through the construction joint. Additional reinforcing steel is sized based on slab depth "D" spanning over the metal deck. Number 3 bars at twelve inches on center are used for depths up to two and one-half inches. Number 4 bars at twelve inches on center are used for depths greater than two and one-half inches up to four and three-quarters inches. Number 5 bars at twelve inches on center are used for depths greater than four and three-quarters inches. The metal deck spans in either direction with development length Ld.
