A concrete slab construction joint utilizes either PNA diamond dowels or round steel dowels spaced twenty-four inches on center. For slab thicknesses of five or six inches, one-quarter-inch by four-and-one-half-inch diamond dowels are used, while seven or eight-inch slabs require three-eighths-inch by four-and-one-half-inch diamond dowels. Alternatively, hybrid configurations employ five-eighths-inch by twelve-inch round dowels for five or six-inch slabs, and three-quarters-inch by twelve-inch round dowels for seven or eight-inch slabs, with the exposed side lightly greased. Number three reinforcing bars measuring thirty-six inches in length run parallel to the joint at twenty-four inches on center. The joint details account for slab thickness variations denoted as variable T.
