A one-half-inch steel plate is sandwiched between glued-laminated timber web elements at the bottom center connection of a timber truss. The assembly connects to a tension rod via a fork and pin assembly capable of developing the ultimate tensile capacity of the rod. Eight one-half-inch diameter drift pins are typically installed in both the web and vertical members. Holes in the glulam members are specified to be one-thirty-second inch smaller in diameter than the drift bolts, while holes in the steel plate are one-thirty-second inch greater. A minimum one-half-inch gap is provided between the fork and the glulam web, with corners rounded to a one-inch radius at specified locations.
