A pipe passes through a concrete foundation wall inside a larger sleeve, maintaining a one-inch clearance all around the pipe. One number five reinforcing bar is placed twenty-four inches long both above and below the sleeve within foundation walls and grade beams. The drawing notes that no pipes are permitted to pass directly through footings or grade beams. Where a pipe runs less than twenty-four inches below the bottom of the footing, the footing is thickened and extended a minimum of one foot on each side of the sleeve.
