A wide-flange steel beam frames into a wide-flange column flange using a typical shear plate connection with slip-critical bolts. The beam flanges feature complete joint penetration welds on three sides along with weld access holes at top and bottom. Horizontal continuity plates match the width of the column and the thickness of the thickest welded beam flange plus one-eighth inch. A cap plate is provided matching the thickness of the thickest welded beam flange plus one-eighth inch and the larger width of the column or welded beam flange, fully welded with complete joint penetration welds at the web and flanges.
