This structural detail establishes the maximum allowable size and spacing for core drills and penetrations through an untopped Type C or D metal deck. Openings are restricted to a maximum diameter of three inches through the top flute and two inches through the bottom flute. Deck webs must remain completely uncut throughout the penetration area. Supplemental reinforcement extending six diameters of the larger opening, but not less than twelve inches each way, is required if openings exceed these limits or are spaced closer together than specified.
