A wide-flange beam connects to a W14 column utilizing a rigid moment connection detail with demand-critical complete-joint-penetration welds at both flanges and the beam web. Full-depth stiffener plates are provided on each side of the column, with thickness matching the beam flange and extending from the column web to the outside of the beam flange with milled ends to bear. Erection bolts and a three-eighths-inch minimum backing or erection tab plate assist with temporary alignment during construction. Five-sixteenths-inch fillet welds are specified at standard junctions, alongside a buckling-restrained braced gusset plate where applicable and a drag strut referenced to plan.
