An HSS beam connects to a wide flange column using top and bottom structural angles sized as L4x4x1/2 by column width minus 1-1/2 inches top and bottom, or column depth minus 2-1/2 times k when framing to the web. The angles weld to the column with 5/16-inch fillet welds on both sides and to the HSS beam with 1/4-inch fillet welds on three sides. A maximum clearance of 1/2 inch is maintained between the beam end and the column face, with the larger side of the HSS oriented unless noted otherwise.
