A steel handrail post is inserted into a pipe sleeve fit tight with the guardrail and embedded into a concrete slab and grade beam. The six-inch concrete slab is reinforced with number three bars at eighteen inches on center each way. The pipe sleeve is welded to a three-inch by three-inch by one-quarter-inch steel plate embedded within the concrete. The surrounding void inside the sleeve is filled with non-shrink grout. The supporting grade beam features number four reinforcing bars at eighteen inches on center and continuous number four bars at twelve inches on center.
