An HSS column intersects a steel beam with a one-half-inch gusset plate welded to both members to transfer bracing loads. A diagonal HSS brace frames into the gusset plate maintaining a one-inch clearance from the beam flange. A three-eighths-inch stiffener plate is welded inside the beam web with three-sixteenths fillet welds on three sides. The gusset plate is attached to the members with quarter-inch fillet welds on each side. A five-sixteenths fillet weld connects the column base or framing elements at the beam intersection.
