A hollow structural section connects to the web of a wide flange beam using a three-eighths-inch plate welded with a three-sixteenths-inch fillet weld. The connection is secured with four seven-eighths-inch diameter bolts arranged in a rectangular pattern. Shims are added as required between the members. Edge distances and bolt spacings are typically set at one and one-half inches and three inches.
