A structural steel beam connects to a supporting member via a full depth shear plate secured with bolts. When dimension D is greater than 9 inches, an additional 3/8-inch by 4-inch square plate and an L3x3x3/8 angle stiffener are welded beneath the beam using quarter-inch fillet welds on three sides at both ends. Fillet welds of quarter-inch size secure the shear plate and stiffener components as specified for depth conditions less than or equal to 9 inches or greater than 9 inches.
