Two aligned hollow structural section members meet at a splice joint with a half-inch maximum gap and a maximum one foot six inch offset to supporting elements. Two one-inch by one-and-three-quarter-inch by one-foot-six-inch long plates are attached to each side of the hollow structural section members. One-quarter-inch fillet welds secure the side plates with specified spacing dimensions. A cross-section detail indicates the profile of the hollow structural section and the placement of the splice plates on opposing sides.
